AN?injured referee brought an exciting match to a premature end when Farnham played the Old Reigatians at Reigate on January 10, and the ORs were leading 23-17.
What a start - were Farnham suffering from New Year blues? With one minute on the clock Farnham fly-half Chris Penn caught the ORs fullback with a swinging arm – penalty 3-0. Back came the rampaging home pack driving down the short side. A chip and chase, surely safety, but an offload went horribly wrong and full-back Grant was over in the corner. An immaculate kick from Grant and the lead was stretched to 10-0 with only six minutes gone.
Farnham had seven academy players in the side and were under the cosh. A deliberate knock on and Grant increased his personal total and ORs to 13-0. After a period of frenetic end-to-end exchanges the lead was increased to 16-0 when Farnham were penalised for not releasing: Grant 16, Farnham 0.
